**Can OnlyFans detect screen recording? Not as far as OnlyFans says. Its copyright help page for creators describes no feature that detects screenshots or screen recordings.** What it does describe is prevention: a Digital Rights Management (DRM) setting, a free watermark, a ban on copying in its Terms of Service, and a free takedown service for stolen content. None of these makes a leak impossible, so this guide also covers what to do once a copy shows up elsewhere, including through our [OnlyFans leak removal service](/services/remove-onlyfans-leaked-content).

Everything below is checked against OnlyFans' own [Safety and Transparency Center](https://onlyfans.com/transparency-center/helping), [Terms of Service](https://onlyfans.com/terms) and [official blog](https://blog.onlyfans.com/onlyfans-app/). OnlyFans can change its settings, so check your own account as well.

## Can OnlyFans Detect Screen Recording or Screenshots?

OnlyFans' copyright help page lists its protection tools, and capture detection is not one of them. When creators find out their content was captured, it is usually because a copy turned up somewhere else.

OnlyFans also works differently from a phone app. According to its [official blog](https://blog.onlyfans.com/onlyfans-app/), OnlyFans "does not currently have a dedicated iPhone, Android, or desktop app" and instead "works directly through your web browser on mobile and desktop devices."

What OnlyFans can do is act on breaches of its terms. Its [Terms of Service](https://onlyfans.com/terms) say it may suspend or delete an account if it thinks the user has "seriously or repeatedly breached the Terms of Service."

## How Does OnlyFans Prevent Screen Recording?

OnlyFans describes three layers. Two of them are settings you turn on yourself.

### 1. DRM protection (creator setting)

OnlyFans states: "Creators are also offered Digital Rights Management (DRM) protections, which can also be enabled in the 'Privacy and Safety' section of their settings to help protect content from piracy or unauthorised sharing." Check whether it is on for your account.

DRM is meant to stop recordings of protected video on many devices, but it depends on the viewer's device and browser. Google's Widevine DRM, for example, has [different security levels](https://support.google.com/widevine/answer/6072714) for different devices. OnlyFans does not say which DRM it uses or how well it works on each device, and it does not say DRM covers photos.

### 2. Watermarks (creator setting)

OnlyFans says it "provides a free digital 'watermarking' service to all OnlyFans Creators" and that "A watermark is a light digital text placed on top of a Creator's content." You customize it in your **Privacy and Safety** settings. Many creators use their OnlyFans URL.

The watermark is text you set. OnlyFans does not say it identifies the fan who is viewing, so it shows where a copy came from but not which subscriber captured it. For more on this, see our [watermarking strategies guide](/blog/watermarking-strategies-for-adult-content-creators-in-2026).

### 3. Terms of Service that forbid copying

OnlyFans is explicit: fans pay to view content, "but all content belongs to the Creator", and "OnlyFans does not allow content to be downloaded. Copying content from OnlyFans is a breach of our Terms of Service" ([Transparency Center](https://onlyfans.com/transparency-center/helping)).

Its Terms of Service also say that if OnlyFans terminates a Fan account for violating the Terms, Fan Payments, including prepaid subscription payments, are not refunded.

## Does OnlyFans Block Screenshots?

OnlyFans does not describe any screenshot blocking. For photos, the tool it offers is the watermark, which it says makes it harder for the original content to be copied. Place your watermark where cropping it out would damage the image.

For video, DRM is the setting to turn on, and how well it works depends on the viewer's device and browser.

## What OnlyFans Protection Cannot Stop

Even with every setting on, some routes stay open:

- **Photos.** OnlyFans does not say DRM covers photos, so the watermark is the built-in layer for images.
- **Device differences.** DRM depends on the viewer's device and browser.
- **Filming the screen.** A second phone pointed at a screen records what is shown, whatever the software does.
- **Paying fans who copy anyway.** Fans who pay can still copy content, which is why OnlyFans bans copying in its Terms.

OnlyFans' tools make capture harder; they were not designed to make leaks impossible. What you can control is how quickly you find copies and ask for their removal.

What OnlyFans offers: a DRM setting in Privacy and Safety, a free text watermark, Terms of Service that ban copying, and free DMCA takedowns through its contact form. What stays open: no capture detection described, DRM that depends on the device and browser, no DRM for photos described, and filming the screen with a second phone.](/images/blog/blog-how-does-onlyfans-prevent-screen-recording.webp)

## How to Set Up the Protection OnlyFans Gives You

These steps cost nothing:

1. **Turn on DRM.** Open Settings, then **Privacy and Safety**, and enable DRM protection.
2. **Turn on your watermark.** In the same **Privacy and Safety** settings, set up your watermark text.
3. **Add your own visible watermark before uploading.** Place it where cropping it out would damage the image or video.
4. **Keep your originals.** Store the source files with their dates. A takedown notice has to identify your work, and your originals show which work it is.

## What to Do When Your Content Has Already Been Captured

**Report it to OnlyFans.** OnlyFans says it has "a dedicated team that issues formal 'takedown' notices on behalf of OnlyFans' Creators under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)" and that "This service is free of charge." Use its [contact form](https://onlyfans.com/contact) and select "Reporting Stolen Content." OnlyFans also says it notifies all major search engines of these infringements and scans the internet on a regular basis for sites that host large amounts of stolen content. It also says that "Some companies comply with DMCA notices, while others ignore takedown requests and continue to host stolen content," so it may not be enough on its own.

**File your own DMCA notices.** OnlyFans says creators own the content they post, so you can send notices to the site that hosts a copy, its host, and search engines. Save the link and the date for each copy; do not take screenshots of pages with sexual content and do not download copies. Our guide on [how DMCA takedowns work](/blog/how-dmca-takedowns-work-a-creators-complete-guide) walks through the process, and our [removal guide for leaked OnlyFans content](/blog/how-to-remove-leaked-onlyfans-content-fast-before-it-costs-you-subscribers) covers the routes per site. If the uploader files a counter-notice, the site may restore the content after 10 to 14 business days unless it is told within that period that the copyright owner has filed a court action ([US Copyright Office](https://www.copyright.gov/512/)). For a US work, registration (or a refused application) is generally required before suing ([17 U.S.C. 411(a)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/411)).

**The TAKE IT DOWN Act for intimate images shared without consent.** Under the [TAKE IT DOWN Act](https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/senate-bill/146), covered platforms in the US must remove a reported intimate image of an identifiable individual (adult or minor) published without consent within 48 hours of a valid request, and make reasonable efforts to identify and remove known identical copies. This platform duty applies since 19 May 2026, when the [FTC began enforcing](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2026/05/ftc-begins-enforcing-take-it-down-act) it. For copies of content you sell, a DMCA notice is the route that fits. See our [TAKE IT DOWN Act explainer](/blog/take-it-down-act-explained).

**The Copyright Claims Board.** In the US, the [Copyright Claims Board](https://ccb.gov/faq/) (CCB) can decide copyright claims up to US$30,000 in total, without an attorney and fully online. Filing costs US$100 in two payments, [US$40 and then US$60](https://ccb.gov/about/). Its limits matter: the work must be registered with the Copyright Office or have an application submitted, taking part is voluntary and the other side can opt out, and the CCB cannot order someone to stop infringing unless they agree to it ([17 U.S.C. 1504(e)(1)(B)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/1504)). You also need to know who the other side is; AMP never identifies who leaked content.

Adult Model Protection is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

## How Adult Model Protection Helps After a Leak

You can file every notice above yourself, for free, and OnlyFans' own takedown team is free too. What Adult Model Protection adds:

- **Finding the copies.** On paid plans, our team runs regular scans of Google, Bing and Yandex and more than 500 known leak and piracy sites, reverse image searches on Google and Bing with the content assets you upload, and manual searches by your creator names. Your content assets are used only to search for copies and are never shared with third parties.
- **Filing as your agent.** AMP files each notice under its own name as your authorized agent, and a person checks every notice before it is sent. The rights holder named on the notice is your model (stage) name, and the site may show it to the uploader.
- **Removal checks and repeats.** We check whether each copy is gone and follow up when it is not. Copies that reappear are found in later scans and get a new notice. When a site ignores notices, we escalate to its hosting provider, domain registrar, internet service provider, Cloudflare or a payment processor.

Takedown notices to leak sites and search engine de-indexing start on the Essentials plan (up to 100 platform notices a month, unlimited de-indexing). Luxe and higher plans add unlimited notices, social media and messenger removals, and intimate-image (NCII) reports and TAKE IT DOWN Act requests. The Free plan includes a quarterly web scan but no takedowns. See [pricing](/pricing) and [how a DMCA notice works](/services/dmca-takedowns-adult-content).

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does OnlyFans notify you when someone takes a screenshot?

OnlyFans' copyright help page describes no such notification. Most creators learn about a capture when the content appears somewhere else online.

### Is screen recording OnlyFans content allowed?

No. OnlyFans says downloading is not allowed and that "Copying content from OnlyFans is a breach of our Terms of Service." Fans who pay for content do not own it.

### What happens to a fan who leaks OnlyFans content?

OnlyFans can suspend or delete accounts for serious or repeated breaches of its Terms, and says a Fan account terminated for violating the Terms does not get prepaid subscription payments back. Separately, you can send DMCA notices to each site that hosts a copy.
