This post explains how leaks can affect a creator's income, how leaks commonly spread, what you can do before and after a leak, and where Adult Model Protection fits in. It does not put a number on lost income: no reliable figure exists, and every creator's situation is different.

## How Leaks Can Affect Your Income

OnlyFans creators earn from subscriptions, pay-per-view messages, custom content and tips. A leak can affect each of them:

- **Subscriptions.** A leak can lead some people to see your content without paying, and some existing subscribers may leave if they find the same content elsewhere.
- **Pay-per-view and custom content.** Content you sell as exclusive is worth less to buyers once copies are easy to find.
- **Your name in search results.** Leaked copies can appear in search results for your stage name, next to or above your real accounts.

The longer a copy stays up, the more people can see it, so the sooner a leak is found and removed, the better. A large back catalogue also gives copiers more to copy, so older content needs checking as well as new releases.

## How Leaks Commonly Spread

Creators commonly report that their content is copied by a subscriber, shared first in private groups and then reposted on public sites, and that copies show up in search results for their stage name. Screen recording is one way content is copied: OnlyFans describes its DRM as protecting content "from piracy or unauthorised sharing", but it does not describe blocking screenshots, so assume photos and videos can be captured ([OnlyFans](https://onlyfans.com/transparency-center/helping)). Some piracy sites change domains, use offshore hosting or ignore notices. A person who posted a copy can also send a counter-notice, which the law allows.

## Before a Leak: Settings and Habits

No one can guarantee that content will never be shared without permission, but some steps make copying harder and copies easier to recognise:

- **Turn on OnlyFans' free watermark and its DRM protection**, both in the "Privacy and Safety" settings ([OnlyFans](https://onlyfans.com/transparency-center/helping)). OnlyFans says its watermark makes it "harder for the original content to be copied or used without permission", and a watermark also shows where an image came from.
- **Keep your records**: original files, upload dates and where you published each item. They help show the content is yours.
- **Keep free previews clearly different** from your paid content.
- **Turn on two-factor authentication** on every platform to prevent account takeovers.

A watermark that differs per subscriber would let a creator trace a leak to an account. OnlyFans' own watermark is text the creator sets, and subscriber-specific watermarking by Adult Model Protection is in development and not a current feature.

## After a Leak: The DMCA Route

A DMCA takedown notice asks a site or host to remove a copy of your work.

- **You do not need a registration to send a notice.** The US Copyright Office says: "A copyright registration is not required before sending a takedown notice" ([US Copyright Office](https://www.copyright.gov/512/)). Registration matters if you later sue: for a US work, registration (or a refused application) is generally required first ([17 U.S.C. 411(a)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/411)). The [Copyright Claims Board](https://ccb.gov/faq/) also needs a registration or a submitted application.
- **What a notice contains.** A notice names the work and the URLs of the copies, and includes a good-faith statement, a statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner, plus a signature and contact details ([17 U.S.C. 512(c)(3)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/512)). - **File soon after you find a copy.** The law sets no deadline, but a copy that comes down sooner is seen by fewer people.
- **Counter-notices.** If the uploader sends one, the platform may restore the content after 10 to 14 business days unless it is told within that period that the copyright owner has filed a court action ([US Copyright Office](https://www.copyright.gov/512/)).

A site is not legally required to remove content, but it loses the DMCA safe harbor protection if it does not act on a valid notice ([US Copyright Office](https://www.copyright.gov/512/)), so results vary by site. ## Routes by Where the Copy Is

- **Adult tube sites and file hosts** that accept copyright notices: use the site's own DMCA route.
- **Telegram:** Telegram accepts copyright complaints at the address in its [FAQ](https://telegram.org/faq). See [Telegram content removal](/services/telegram-content-removal).
- **Discord:** use Discord's official copyright process. Its policy says: "Do not make false or malicious reports to our Legal Response or other customer support teams, send multiple reports about the same issue, or ask a group of users to report the same content or issue" ([Discord](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/4410339349655-Discord-s-Copyright-IP-Policy)).
- **Search results:** when a site leaves a copy online, you can still ask search engines to stop showing it. Google and Bing each have a copyright removal form, and each search engine decides. Yandex asks you to contact the site or its host ([Yandex](https://yandex.com/support/abuse/en/troubleshooting/search/copyright)); once the copy is gone, it can drop the outdated result. Google reports an average processing time of about 6 hours for copyright removal requests through its web form ([Google](https://support.google.com/transparencyreport/answer/7347743)). ## When a Site Ignores the Notice

When a site does not respond, the next step is the companies that provide its services:

- **Hosting providers** have their own abuse processes.
- **Cloudflare** says it cannot remove content from a website; it forwards abuse complaints to the hosting provider and the website owner ([Cloudflare](https://www.cloudflare.com/trust-hub/reporting-abuse/)).
- **Domain registrars** must publish an abuse contact and investigate abuse reports ([ICANN](https://www.icann.org/en/contracted-parties/advisories/documents/advisory-compliance-with-dns-abuse-obligations-in-the-registrar-accreditation-agreement-and-the-registry-agreement-05-02-2024-en)). Copyright is not one of the DNS abuse categories ICANN enforces ([ICANN](https://www.icann.org/compliance/complaint)), so a registrar may decline to act.
- **Card brands.** When a site takes card payments for infringing content, a report to the card brand is possible in some cases. Mastercard, for example, asks for earlier enforcement efforts first, such as previous DMCA notices ([Mastercard](https://www.mastercard.com/us/en/anti-piracy-policy.html)).

Whether any of them acts is their decision. A lawsuit is the copyright owner's decision and needs a lawyer. Adult Model Protection is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

It depends on the site. Our estimate is 24 to 72 hours for a complete notice to a site that responds to notices, and 5 to 14 days for Telegram. These are estimates, not guarantees, and sites that need escalation take longer.
