# DMCA Takedowns Built for Adult Content Creators

When your photos or videos are copied to tube sites, file hosts, leak forums or Telegram channels, a DMCA takedown notice asks each site to remove them. US copyright law gives platforms and hosting providers a safe harbor, and one of its conditions is removing infringing material expeditiously after a valid notice. Not every site responds, which is why follow-up and escalation matter.

Essentials+Plan that includes platform takedown notices

24-72hOur estimate for responsive sites, not a guarantee

~6hGoogle's published average for Search removals

Adult Model Protection (AMP) handles the process for you: finding the copies, preparing each notice, having a person on our takedown team check it, filing it as your authorized agent, checking whether the content is gone, following up and escalating when a site does not act, and filing again when a copy comes back. You follow every request and its status in your dashboard.

Platform takedown notices are included on every paid plan: up to 100 a month on the Essentials plan and unlimited on the Luxe and higher plans. Search engine de-indexing is unlimited on every paid plan. Takedowns on social media and messengers such as X, Reddit, Telegram and Discord are included on the Luxe and higher plans.

## How a DMCA Takedown Enforces Your Copyright

In the United States, [copyright exists automatically](https://www.copyright.gov/what-is-copyright/) in an original work once it is fixed, with no registration required. Copying or sharing your content without your permission can be copyright infringement.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) provides the notice-and-takedown process. The [US Copyright Office](https://www.copyright.gov/dmca-directory/) explains that certain service providers must designate an agent to receive notices in order to qualify for safe harbor protection, and that a provider that fails to do so may lose it and be subject to an infringement suit. To keep that protection, a provider must, among other conditions, respond expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material after a valid notice ([17 U.S.C. 512](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/512)).

## What Makes Adult Content Takedowns Different

Creators commonly report that their content spreads to many kinds of sites at once: tube sites, leak forums, file hosts and Telegram channels, plus search results that point to all of them. Each copy needs its own notice, to the right contact. For leaks of subscription content, see also [removing leaked OnlyFans content](https://adultmodelprotection.com/services/remove-onlyfans-leaked-content).

- Some piracy sites ignore notices or are hosted outside the United States, which can slow removal
- Some sites do not publish a DMCA contact, so the notice goes to their host instead
- Some sites hide who operates them
- Telegram lists an email address for copyright complaints in its FAQ
- Payment processors can be another route when a site ignores notices

## The Elements of a Valid DMCA Takedown Notice

The [US Copyright Office](https://www.copyright.gov/512/) and the statute list what a takedown notice must include:

- Physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or authorized agent
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed
- Identification of the infringing material and information to locate it, such as its URL
- Contact information for the person sending the notice
- A good-faith statement that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the sender is the owner or is authorized to act on the owner's behalf

A notice that is missing required elements may not count as notice to the platform, and can be rejected. Some platforms will ask for the missing details. A person on our takedown team checks every notice for these elements before it is sent.

## Where Each Platform Takes Notices

Most large platforms publish their own copyright route. [Pornhub](https://help.pornhub.com/hc/en-us/articles/4419869469459-Filing-a-DMCA-Notice-of-Copyright-Infringement) has an online DMCA form, and its [copyright page](https://help.pornhub.com/hc/en-us/articles/4419861225107-Copyright) says requests should only come from the copyright owner or an agent authorized to act for them. [XVideos](https://info.xvideos.com/legal/tos) states in its terms that it will expeditiously remove infringing content in response to a valid takedown request. [X](https://help.x.com/en/forms/ipi/dmca) and [Reddit](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043076292-Copyright-overview) have online copyright forms. [MEGA](https://mega.io/takedown) acts on copyright takedown notices under its terms and takes them through its copyright form or by email. [Telegram](https://telegram.org/faq) takes copyright complaints by email.

Some platforms also have a separate route for intimate content shared without consent. Pornhub, for example, has a [content removal form](https://help.pornhub.com/hc/en-us/articles/4419852306707-Someone-uploaded-a-photo-or-video-of-me-without-my-consent-please-remove-it) for a photo or video uploaded without your knowledge or consent. For paid content that you published yourself and someone re-uploaded, the copyright route through the DMCA form is the one that fits, and that is the route we use. Where a case also fits a privacy or non-consensual content report, AMP can file that report as your authorized representative, within the limits of your plan.

For search results, [Google says](https://support.google.com/transparencyreport/answer/7347743?hl=en) its average processing time for copyright removal requests submitted through its web form for Search is about 6 hours, and that many factors can change this for a single request. For other sites, how long removal takes depends on the site, and some sites do not respond at all.

## Filing as Your Agent, and What Happens to Your Name

Many platforms pass a notice on to the person who uploaded the content. Pornhub says the notice, including the personal information in it, may be forwarded to the uploader, and that the copyright owner's name is published in place of disabled content. XVideos says it gives the uploader the sender's name, contact information and the contents of the request. Google shares certain legal notices it receives with a third-party project called [Lumen](https://support.google.com/legal/answer/12158374), which publishes them.

That is why AMP signs and files every notice as your authorized agent, with AMP's contact details. The rights holder named on the notice is your model (stage) name, and the platform may show it to the uploader; where a notice goes to Google or Bing, Lumen may publish it. Your legal name is only shared with your consent, and only with a recipient that needs it and keeps it confidential; it is never shared with Google, Bing, X, Cloudflare or others that publish or forward notices. You can withdraw that consent at any time from your account.

## Counter-Notices

The person who uploaded the content can file a counter-notice. Under US law, the platform may restore the content after 10 to 14 business days unless it is told within that period that the copyright owner has filed a court action ([US Copyright Office](https://www.copyright.gov/512/)). Some sites set their own windows in their rules; XVideos gives the uploader five days to counter-notify.

Our takedown team tells you when a counter-notice arrives and explains these options; the decision is yours. Adult Model Protection is not a law firm and does not give legal advice; for advice on your options, consult an attorney.

## When a Site Ignores a Notice

When a site does not act, our takedown team sends a follow-up. When it still does not act, we escalate to the companies the site depends on: its hosting provider, domain registrar, internet service provider or Cloudflare, or a payment processor. For Telegram and Discord we escalate to their abuse teams. Escalation is included on every paid plan, and results vary.

![Five steps of a DMCA takedown: a notice filed by AMP as your agent after a person checks it, a removal check, a follow-up when the site does not act, escalation to the host, registrar, ISP, Cloudflare or a payment processor, then de-indexing in Google and Bing and a new notice for copies that come back.](https://adultmodelprotection.com/images/services/dmca-takedowns-adult-content-escalation.webp)_What happens after a DMCA notice, including when a site ignores it._

Some payment networks accept intellectual property complaints. [Visa](https://www.visa.com/en-us/legal/report-brand-abuse), for example, lets an intellectual property owner whose earlier enforcement against a merchant was unsuccessful submit a complaint about a website that accepts Visa.

A [search engine de-indexing](https://adultmodelprotection.com/services/search-engine-deindexing) request asks Google and Bing to stop showing a page in their search results. The page can still exist on the site, so it keeps its own notice and follow-up.

## Filing Yourself or With AMP

You can file DMCA notices yourself, for free. Pornhub, X, Reddit and MEGA all have their own forms, and Google has its own form for search results.

What AMP adds is the work around the forms: finding the copies in the first place, collecting every URL across many sites, sending the notice to the host when a site publishes no contact, AMP signing as your agent so your legal name stays off the notice, a person checking each notice before it is sent, checking afterwards whether each copy is gone, escalating when a site ignores a notice, and filing again when a copy comes back.

## Copyright Registration

Copyright registration is not required to file a DMCA notice, but it matters if you go to court. Under [17 U.S.C. 504(c)](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/504) and [412](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/412), statutory damages (up to $150,000 per work for willful infringement) are generally available only if the work was registered before the infringement began, or within three months of first publication. If you register more than three months after first publication, statutory damages and attorney's fees are generally not available for infringement that began before registration ([17 U.S.C. 412](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/412)). A copyright attorney can tell you what applies to your works.

Copyright registration fees start at $45 for the electronic Single Application and $65 for the Standard Application (check the [Copyright Office fee page](https://www.copyright.gov/about/fees.html) for the current fee). Group registration options exist for some types of works.

## After Removal: Removal Checks and Re-uploads

After a notice is sent, we check whether the page is gone, through page checks and manual checks, and you follow every request and its status in your dashboard. Stolen content that is removed from one site can reappear on another.

Our team scans Google, Bing and Yandex and more than 500 known leak and piracy sites, runs reverse image searches with the content assets you upload, and searches by hand. Your content assets are used only to search for copies and are never shared with third parties. Copies that reappear are found in later scans and get a new notice, and you get a notification when a scan finds a new copy. You can also submit links yourself from your dashboard. Content fingerprinting, which would help detect re-encoded or cropped copies, is in development and not a current feature.

## If the content shows you under 18, or you are in danger

- Explicit images or videos of you taken before you were 18: use NCMEC's free [Take It Down](https://takeitdown.ncmec.org/) service and report to the [CyberTipline](https://report.cybertip.org/). Adult Model Protection serves adults only.
- Explicit images of you as an adult shared without your consent: [StopNCII.org](https://stopncii.org/) is a free tool. If someone is threatening you, see [sextortion and blackmail help](https://adultmodelprotection.com/services/sextortion-blackmail-help).
- If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text [988](https://988lifeline.org/) in the US, or your local emergency number.

## How It Works

Our team runs the scans, and every notice is checked by our takedown team before it is sent. Here is what happens from the moment you register to the moment we check that your content is gone.

1

### Content Assets

You upload your content assets, which we use only for reverse image searches (content fingerprinting is in development).

2

### Finding the Copies

Our team scans search engines and more than 500 known leak and piracy sites, and searches manually. You can submit links too.

3

### Notice Prepared and Checked

For every copy we find, within your plan's monthly limit, we prepare a DMCA notice with all required elements. A person on our takedown team checks every notice before it is sent.

4

### Notice Filed

The notice is signed and filed by AMP as your agent, through the site's DMCA form or contact.

5

### Follow-up and Escalation

We check whether the page is gone. When a site does not act, we follow up and escalate to its host, registrar or payment processor.

6

### Re-uploads

Copies that reappear are found in later scans and get a new notice. You see every request and its status in your dashboard.

## Frequently Asked Questions

<details>

<summary>Do I need to register my copyright before filing a DMCA notice?</summary>

No. Copyright registration is not required to file a DMCA notice, and in the United States copyright exists automatically once a work is fixed. Registration matters for lawsuits and for statutory damages, which generally require registration before the infringement began or within three months of first publication. Ask a copyright attorney about your own works.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How long does a DMCA takedown take?</summary>

Our estimate for a responsive site is 24 to 72 hours after a complete notice. Google says its average for copyright removals from Search is about 6 hours, varying by request. Some sites take longer or do not respond, and then we follow up and escalate. These are estimates, not guarantees.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Which plan do I need for DMCA takedowns?</summary>

Platform takedown notices start on the Essentials plan, with up to 100 a month; the Luxe and higher plans include unlimited notices. Search engine de-indexing and escalation are included on every paid plan. Takedowns on social media and messengers such as X, Reddit, Telegram and Discord need the Luxe or a higher plan. The Free plan includes a quarterly web scan but no takedowns.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens if someone files a counter-notice?</summary>

Our takedown team tells you when a counter-notice arrives and explains your options. Under US law, the platform may restore the content after 10 to 14 business days unless it is told within that period that the copyright owner has filed a court action. The decision is yours. Adult Model Protection is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can you remove content from sites in other countries?</summary>

We send notices to sites wherever they are, and when a site ignores a notice we escalate to its hosting provider, registrar, internet service provider, Cloudflare or payment processor. Sites outside the United States can be slower, and results vary.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What is the difference between a DMCA takedown and a platform report?</summary>

A DMCA notice is a formal notice with elements set by law; platforms that want to keep their DMCA safe harbor remove the material expeditiously after a valid notice. A platform report goes through the platform's own reporting tools under its own rules. Where a case fits one, such as an impersonation or non-consensual content report, we can file it as your authorized representative.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will the person who uploaded my content see my identity?</summary>

AMP signs and files the notice as your authorized agent, with AMP's contact details. The rights holder named on the notice is your model (stage) name, and many platforms forward notices to the uploader, so the uploader may see that name; Lumen may publish notices sent to Google or Bing. Your legal name is only shared with your consent, with a recipient that needs it and keeps it confidential, and never with services that publish or forward notices.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can stolen content on private Discord servers or closed Telegram channels be removed?</summary>

Our takedown team covers private groups, including private Discord servers and Telegram groups, and you can point us to content you know about. We report it to the platform and escalate to its abuse team when needed. Telegram and Discord removals are included on the Luxe and higher plans, and results vary.
