How Stolen Content Spreads on Discord

Discord is built around servers, many of them invite-only, and direct messages. Stolen content can be shared in invite-only servers and private messages, and direct messages and private servers are not visible to web searches.

Creators commonly report servers that exist to share leaked adult content, some of them behind a verification step or a payment, servers where bots post content, and accounts that use a creator's photos and name to pose as them. Discord's community guidelines bar sharing sexually explicit content of other people without their explicit consent, harassment, and fake profiles that impersonate someone.

How Discord Handles a Copyright Notice

Discord's copyright policy asks for the elements of a DMCA notice: a description of the work, where the material is located "including identifiers like message links or other IDs", a good faith statement, a statement under penalty of perjury that the sender is the owner or authorized to act for them, contact details, and a signature. To point to a message, Discord asks for the server ID, channel ID and message ID. That means each copy of your content needs its own entry in the notice: a server name alone is not enough.

Discord does not give a timeline in its copyright policy. Our estimate for Discord is 24 to 72 hours for a complete notice; it is an estimate, not a guarantee, and some cases take longer.

Copyright, Intimate Imagery or Impersonation: Which Report Fits

Discord has a separate report for non-consensual intimate imagery under local laws. It covers images or videos that show you, or someone you are authorized to represent, and that were shared without consent, including "images or videos you may have originally consented to create but did not consent to have shared". Reports may be submitted by the depicted person or an authorized representative, and Discord says it will not share the information in the report form with the users who posted the content.

For paid content you made and sell yourself, the problem is usually that it was copied without permission, so a copyright notice is the route that fits. Where the intimate imagery route fits your case better, we prepare that report with you, and you may need to file it yourself. For accounts that pose as you, reported under Discord's rules against impersonation, we prepare the report and you may need to file it from your own Discord account; impersonation account removal is included on the Luxe and higher plans.

Filing as Your Agent, and What Happens to Your Name

We file every Discord notice on behalf of Adult Model Protection as your authorized agent, and a person on our takedown team checks each notice before it is sent. The rights holder named on the notice is your model (stage) name, and Discord may show it to the person who posted the content. Your legal name is only shared with your consent, and only with a recipient that needs it and keeps it confidential; you can withdraw that consent at any time.

The poster can file a counter-notice, and under Discord's policy and US law Discord may then restore the content after 10 to 14 business days unless it is told within that period that the copyright owner has filed a court action (US Copyright Office). Filing Yourself or With AMP

You can file Discord's copyright form, or email its Copyright Agent, yourself, for free. There is no need to post in the server and draw more attention to your content.

What AMP adds is the work around the form: finding the messages in the first place, collecting the server, channel and message IDs for every copy, filing under AMP's name instead of yours, checking each notice before it is sent, checking afterwards whether each copy is gone, and handling the copies on other sites.

How We Find Your Content on Discord

Our detection combines scans of search engines and known leak sites with manual searches by our takedown team, using your creator names and reverse image searches with your content assets. Your content assets are used only to search for copies and are never shared with third parties.

Private Discord groups are covered by our team as well, but what can be found in private servers and direct messages is limited and never guaranteed. If you see your content in a private space, send us the message or server links and we can file the takedown. Messages posted by bots are copies like any other: each one we find gets its own entry in a notice.

After the Notice: Removal Checks and Reposts

After a notice is sent, we check whether each copy is gone, through page checks and manual checks, and you follow every request and its status in your dashboard. When Discord does not act, our takedown team follows up with Discord's abuse team.

Our regular scans and manual searches look for your content again, and a repost that turns up gets a new notice. You get a notification when a scan finds a new copy.

When Discord Leads to Other Sites

A Discord message can link to a copy on a file host or leak site. Removing the message does not remove that copy. Our scans cover search engines and more than 500 known leak and piracy sites, and copies we find there get their own DMCA takedowns, to the site, its host or, when a site ignores us, its registrar, hosting provider or payment processor.
