How Stolen Content Spreads on Reddit

Reddit posts are not tied to a creator's own account. Anyone can post your content to a subreddit, often from a throwaway account, and the same images can appear in several communities at once through cross-posts.

Creators commonly report three patterns: dedicated "leak" subreddits named after a platform or a creator, general adult communities that accept any submission, and request threads where users ask for a specific creator's content and others reply with links. The comments under a post are often where links to more of your content, or to Telegram channels and file hosts, are shared.

Reddit itself says it may ban subreddits after repeated removals of violating content, or when a subreddit is clearly dedicated to sharing it.

How Reddit Handles a Copyright Notice

Reddit's copyright overview describes one route: the owner or their authorized representative submits the report form, Reddit reviews it, removes the content when the notice is valid, and tells the user who posted it that the content was removed after a copyright notice, and confirms the removal to the reporter. Reddit also bans accounts that repeatedly break its copyright policy.

Reddit asks reporters to include all required information to avoid delayed processing. Reddit does not publish a response time.

What a Valid Reddit DMCA Notice Must Include

A notice must identify your work, give the location of each copy (on Reddit, the exact post URL), and include contact details, a good faith statement, an accuracy statement made under penalty of perjury, and a signature (US Copyright Office). See how a DMCA notice works for the full explanation.

Reddit also has a report route for intimate media shared without consent. For paid content, Reddit's own reporting page for intimate media says: "If you're a commercial adult content creator, and want to report non-consensual sharing of your commercial content, fill out a copyright complaint." Filing as Your Agent, and What Happens to Your Name

We file every Reddit notice as your authorized agent, signed on behalf of Adult Model Protection, and a person on our takedown team checks each notice before it is sent. The rights holder named on the notice is your model (stage) name. Your legal name is only shared with your consent, and only with a recipient that needs it and keeps it confidential; you can withdraw that consent at any time from your account.

Reddit tells the person who posted the content that it was removed after a copyright notice. That person can file a counter-notice. Under US law, Reddit may then restore the post after 10 to 14 business days unless it is told within that period that the copyright owner has filed a court action (US Copyright Office). Filing Yourself or With AMP

You can file Reddit's copyright form yourself, for free. A notice through the form goes to Reddit, not to the community, so there is no need to post in a subreddit and draw more attention to your content.

What AMP adds is the work around the form: finding the posts in the first place, collecting every post URL across subreddits, filing under AMP's name instead of yours, checking each notice before it is sent, checking afterwards whether each post is gone, and handling the copies on other sites.

After the Notice: Removal Checks and Reposts

After a notice is sent, we check whether each post is gone, through page checks and manual checks, and you follow every request and its status in your dashboard. When a platform does not act, our takedown team sends a follow-up.

Reposts are common on Reddit. Our regular scans, reverse image searches with your content assets and manual searches look for your content again, and a repost that turns up gets a new notice. You get a notification when a scan finds a new copy, and you can submit links yourself from your dashboard, for example when you spot a repost first.

Content fingerprinting, which would also catch cropped or edited copies, is in development and not a current feature.

When Reddit Leads to Other Sites

A Reddit post often links to a copy hosted somewhere else: a tube site, a file host or a Telegram channel. Removing the Reddit post does not remove that copy. Our scans cover search engines and more than 500 known leak and piracy sites, and copies we find there get their own takedown notices, to the site, its host or, when a site ignores us, its registrar, hosting provider or payment processor.
